Tom’s Story
Baked goods have always intrigued me. Good food is synonymous with a good life. As a child I loved my mother’s baking, especially her cherry pie. Later, our daughter, Kaitlin, attended the famed French Culinary Institute in NYC and became a professional chef, catering to some of the most gourmet clients in Denver. After moving to Denver, I recognized the trend towards a plant-based diet and was inspired to come up with the answer for the perfect healthy snack. My recipe has been widely tested. The response to my Sun Bars has been overwhelming.
People have asked me why I chose the name “Sun Bars.” It’s easy. Seeds are the basic conveyor of life for all flora that grow on earth. The sun nurtures the plants producing the almonds, oats, flax and the wonderful array of seeds I combine to achieve the unique flavor you’ll enjoy.
The Sun BAr Story
Tom’s Sun Bars were born in the sun-kissed, high altitude of Denver, Colorado, where an outdoor and healthy lifestyle demands nutritious products that taste good, satisfy, provide energy, and go the distance for customers with discerning palates. Not just another energy bar, this delicious breakfast bar is the curated product of a true epicurean, Tom’s Sun Bar founder, Tom Skilken.
Proof that there’s another world beyond retirement, Tom left the practice of law to pursue his love of baking and cooking. Time after time, as he sought a comforting cup of coffee in neighborhood coffee bars, he looked in vain for the perfect accompaniment-- something nutritious, not-too-sweet, and satisfying that would be agreeable to body and soul.
Finding no perfect option anywhere, he decided to make it himself! Easier said than done, months of testing and experimentation resulted in the amazing product you’re about to enjoy. Tom’s Sun Bars are vegan and gluten-free. Made with nature’s best ingredients, they are deeply satisfying with just the right combination of of nuts, seeds grains (gluten-free of course) and spices.
